CPM is for leaders and managers working in the public and the non-profit sectors—including federal, state and local professionals—who serve the public. The first CPM program was developed in 1979. The National CPM Consortium now has 40 states, territories and the District of Columbia as members. Individuals completing the CPM are eligible to become members of the American Academy of Certified Public Managers. The CPM program is designed to meet the needs of working professionals around Colorado.

The program is comprised of six courses and a capstone project. Courses include two days of in-person instruction, plus online assignments and discussion. Instruction focuses on “real world” problems and situations. The complete CPM program requires 300 hours of structured course work including a capstone project which requires practical applications of skills learned to workplace situations or programmatic challenges. New courses start every other month and participants can begin the program with any course except the capstone. Individuals who complete the CPM certification can use the CPM certification as 6 elective credits in the Master of Public Administration Program at CU Denver. The MPA can be completed online, through weekend intensive courses, on the Downtown Denver campus.

Option 1- Complete the Certified Public Manager Certification
Participants will have 3 years to complete all of the CPM course offerings and complete a capstone project. Upon completion, participants become CPM Certified though CU Denver.

CPRA members register at the discounted rate of $400/course (a $100 savings). That's a $600 savings for individuals receiving credit in the CPM program.

Option 2- Attend any CPM Course Offering
CPRA members can choose to attend any CPM course offering a la carte style. Each course is $300.
