Scholarships

Professional Development Scholarship Applications Now Available!

Parks & Recreation Professional Scholarships ~

CPRA offers 5 different types of  professional development scholarships. Funding for Professional Development Scholarships is generated by donations as well as work of the members at section and fundraising events. Review of applications is conducted by a scholarship committee with representation from each section of CPRA and the CPRA Foundation Board. To be eligible for a CPRA Professional Developement Scholarship, an applicant must be a member in good standing of CPRA at the time of application, be currently employed in a professional parks and recreation position and be available to volunteer at Scholarship Fundraising Events throughout the year.  Please note that priority for scholarship funding will be given to members who are currently serving / have served CPRA or CPRA Foundation via committees, section involvement or board appointment.

Legacy Scholarships ~

Given in the name of Danford-Case and Jim Fisher, Legacy scholarships are available for the new or seasoned professional to enhance their professional growth and contribute to the overall knowledge base of CPRA members.

New Professional Scholarship ~

Open to CPRA members currently employed in a professional Park and Recreation position for a minimum of 1 year and a maximum of 5 years.  Funding up to $500
 

Summit Scholarship ~

Open to CPRA members currently employed in a professional Park and Recreation position for a minimum of 5 years. May be used for professional development or professional research relevant to applicant’s professional employment.  Funding up to $1,500 is available. Requires article and/or presentation to CPRA membership on content of education or research within one year of completion.

Gallup~ Darrow ~Chester Scholarships~

The Gallup*Darrow*Chester Scholarship was established to honor the memory of Virginia Seth Gallup, (1899-1995) grandmother of the originator of this fund, Catherine Virginia Darrow and her husband, William Spencer Chester, who currently reside in Evergreen, Colorado. This Fund is authorized to recognize this extraordinary woman who earned her college degree in the 1920’s at a time when it was rare for women to attend college. Virginia Seth Gallup believed in the power of a college education to the extent that she provided the funds for all of her seven grandchildren to attend college. After graduating from Glocester College with a degree in Public Administration, Virginia Seth Gallup raised a family and served as superintendent of the Talbot County Schools in the State of Maryland. To be eligible for a Gallup*Darrow*Chester Scholarship an applicant must be a member in good standing of CPRA at the time of application, be currently employed in a professional parks and recreation position and be available to volunteer at Scholarship Fundraising Events throughout the year. Please note that priority for the Gallup*Darrow*Chester scholarship funding will be given to members who are currently serving / have served CPRA or CPRA Foundation via committees, section involvement or board appointment. Scholarships of variable amounts are available. 
 

Parks & Recreation Undergraduate Scholarships ~ Not being offered in 2014

The Undergraduate Scholarship provides financial aid to any full time student majoring in a leisure service field course of study at any Colorado higher education institution. To be eligible for a CPRA Undergraduate Scholarship the applicant must be a  member in good standing of CPRA at the time of application, be currently enrolled in a leisure service field course of study at any Colorado higher education institution and be available to volunteer at Scholarship Fundraising Events throughout the year. One scholarship of up to $500 will be awarded. 
 

CancerFit Patient & Survivor Scholarships ~

Cancer Fitness Institute has scholarships available for qualifying individuals who want to participate in the CancerFit program at one of our recreation centers.  The following table shows financial eligibility based on the number of family members and income levels. These figures are for the size of family unit supported by total GROSS household income - gross income is money made by individuals BEFORE taxes.

In order to verify income for the Application process, please provide one of the following:

  • Pay stubs for a full month from yourself and your spouse or partner.
  • Retired individuals: Copy of Income Tax Return Form 1040
  • Medicaid or Disability: copy of check or other official letter verifying eligibility
  • Unemployed: copy of unemployment check or other official letter verifying eligibility.

Please indicate on the fax cover sheet or in the email which recreation center the applicant wishes to attend.

Cancer Fitness Institute will contact the recreation center once scholarship eligibility has been determined so that the participant may be notified by the recreation center and an assessment date established.   We are so excited for you to get started with your program!
